Standard tuition
Weekly sessions with an individualised programme, a maximum 1:4 tutor to student ratio, a balance of computer and written work, and set homework to consolidate new learning. Initial assessment and six monthly written reports for students up to Year 8.
Extended learning
Students displaying high academic ability need special programmes to motivate and stimulate them. Alongside standard tuition we offer inquiry based learning, problem solving and accelerated learning on the current school topic.
School holiday classes
Special holiday programmes run during each school holiday break, and can be attended by students not currently enrolled at Straight A's as well as our regular students.
How it works
Choosing between our tuition options
Most students start on standard tuition, one 75 minute session a week, in the subject where they need the most support. Extended learning sits alongside that programme for students who are already working above their year level and need to be stretched.
Holiday classes are separate from weekly tuition, and cover general tuition, I.C.A.S. competition preparation, school exam revision, NCEA and Cambridge preparation, school entrance exams and January refresher courses.
All enrolments are for a minimum of 10 sessions, and we assume enrolments will continue from term to term unless notified.
Included with every tuition option
- An individualised programme designed to maximise the student's learning
- A maximum 1:4 tutor to student ratio
- Qualified tutors, or tutors completing relevant university qualifications
- Programmes that follow the New Zealand curriculum
- A balance of computer and written work in each session
- Incentive and reward systems to encourage learning and success
- A partnership with the class teacher to maximise learning
Getting started
Start with a free assessment
Before your child begins we assess where they are working at, and use that to write the first programme. Pre-assessments for Years 2 to 8 students make sure the programme targets the required areas, and students up to Year 8 are reassessed every six months with a written report sent home.
Senior students working towards NCEA, Cambridge or IB usually enrol for the full year so we can schedule the right tutor for their subjects well in advance.
If you are not sure which option suits, phone us on 09 528 9207 and we will talk it through with you.
